YHA Grampians Eco is a beautiful hostel within the Grampians National Park, in Halls Gap, Victoria. The property supports a variety of eco-friendly accommodation practices including low energy lighting, solar hot water system, recycling stations and rainwater tanks to flush. Visitors can relax in one of the several seating areas in the garden or take leisurely strolls and connect with nature without leaving the hostel grounds. A complimentary herb garden is offered, as well as free-range chicken eggs. Guests also have easy access to Grampians National Park, and can enjoy its natural beauty including the stunning rock formations and waterfalls while hiking on one of the numerous hiking trails. The national park is also home to various wildlife habitats, including kangaroos, deer and native birds.

Known for producing high-quality coffee, Batukaru Coffee Estate is situated in Tabanan, on the south easterly slopes of Mount Batukaru, in the western part of Bali. The hostel is located on a working coffee plantation surrounded by a protected jungle, and guests can learn about the coffee production process from bean to cup in one of the hostel’s coffee tasting sessions. Overlooking the lush tropical landscape, the rooms at Batukaru Coffee Estate feature traditional Balinese architecture with wooden structures and thatched roofs. Guests will also have the opportunity to see a variety of animals such as deers, tropical birds, civet cats, monkeys and chickens roaming free. Located in Darjeeling, in the Indian state of West Bengal, Trippers hostel offers budget-friendly accommodation for solo travelers, groups, and backpacking enthusiasts alike. The hostel is about 4.5 miles (7.3 km) away from Tiger Hill, where travelers can enjoy beautiful views over the Himalayas. Travelers can build new friendships in the hostel’s serene environment or visit the nearby tea estates with their friends to learn about tea production. Darjeeling is also home to the UNESCO World Heritage site Darjeeling Himalayan Railway situated about 24 miles (40 km) away from the hostel which offers stunning views passing through the highland areas and picturesque local villages.

In order to participate in this survey, respondents had to be 18 years of age or older, had to have traveled at least once in the past 12 months and must be planning to travel in 2024, and be either the primary decision maker or involved in the decision making of their travel. The survey was taken online and took place in February 2024.
